Bright Lights, Big Internet and Big Breaks

As Bill Wasik notes, NYC is a changed place, welcoming the experimental viral blow-up through the Internet because that's where now and " in which our most influential conversations transpire." Young people still come to the Big Apple to find their dreams and success don't they? Bill agrees that the cost of living and price of continuing the New York state of mind seeking that break is more and more moving online. J.Parker sides with Bill commenting NYC is tough on artists trying to make it toda… Continue

Programming Culdesac

With online video pacing a fast growth rate of 70% over other sources it is no wonder that new media is focused on seeking the opportunities and potential that lay ahead. As described by Eileen Naughton of Google in this week's video link this whole avenue is in its infancy with the consumer and change in viewership culture in total play. Infancy with a Legacy

I was describing the pie chart of web trends and social media characteristics to a friend while realizing that I am the age in the 5 percentile of social media and social networking users. I wasn't surprised or even amazed.

Olympian Video is Olympian

Olympia, our state capital. The Olympian, a McClatchy Newspaper, has begun including video reporting and archiving which rivals, in my estimation, many other daily newspapers. I believe this activity can be attributed to the fact that the Olympian has always covered the Washington State legislature and from a recent visit to their website, has closely monitored the video of TVWashington. TVW, the state's own cable and Internet legislative… Continue

Free in Democracy

Chris Anderson's look at the value of "free" doesn't necessarily concentrate on a pricing model but more importantly takes into account the monetizing of future resources in the distribution of free. Journalism as an advocation, the teaching and the organization of media amateurs through mentoring more than full-time writing is a structural change with emphasis on non-monetary rewards. Has there been too much emphasis by traditional media outlets for short-term profits? Advertising buys and the… Continue
